Monopoly Go!

MONOPOLY GO! The mobile version of the classic board game Monopoly has become the sensation of 2023. It's officially the biggest mobile game launch of 2023, surpassing the staggering milestone of $1 billion in annual revenue.

THE CHALLENGE

The success of Monopoly Go led to rapid growth, and the Scopely Sevilla team joined the project to add a variety of profiles and create new content. My focus was on improving the "My Showroom" feature alongside the UI team.

Improvements for the “My Showroom”:

  1. Motivate users to acquire new Tokens.

  2. Include rewards to boost collection.

  3. Introduce new categories such as shields and emojis.

MY SHOWROOM (Token Gallery)

We started by designing the area where the tokens you've acquired would appear, drawing inspiration from the volumes of Pocoyo (mentioned in the game's art bible) and the board of Little M's Room.

We simplified the gallery where the Tokens you acquire during the game are added. We worked to ensure that users would recognize that completing a shelf would unlock the next one and reward them!

INTRODUCING AND OBTAINING THE TOKEN

The first challenge was to design a common object that would contain the designed Tokens. This dome-topped glass pedestal was the winning idea.

We needed a visual and consistent identifier for the Tokens where the moment of opening would be thrilling.

POP THE LID ON YOUR NEW TOKEN

In the left image, you can visualize the Token before acquiring it, enclosed within its protective glass case. Once you acquire it and the Token is yours, you experience a "WOW" moment as the case opens, making you feel like you're unveiling something new.

BETTER WITH REWARDS

When users begin to acquire these valuable tokens, which they can use in their games, they also start unlocking additional rewards. These rewards become visually more generous as users complete more shelves. The animation showcases a quick and straightforward unlocking system.

AND THERE IS MORE…

In addition to collecting Tokens, you can also obtain new shields and emoji packs, all with the same progression design that users are already familiar with. This is awesome!

IMPACT

With this feature, we succeeded in motivating users to complete collections through a highly visual and straightforward reward system. Additionally, we replicated the same design for other categories such as shields and emojis. We increased the conversion rate of collecting, thereby enhancing the usage of these elements, which became highly appealing rewards for users.

MY ROL

Worked as a senior UI and Product Design on this feature. The Monopoly Go art team closely collaborated with UX and Game Design teams to define the goals set for the feature. My challenge was to create a simple visual environment where the user could clearly understand the objectives and feel motivated to collect items. Thus, my work went beyond just designing the user interface.
